Batting average is one of the oldest and most recognized statistics in baseball. It measures a player's ability to get hits.
Formula: BA = Hits ÷ At-Bats
A batting average of .300 or higher is considered excellent in modern baseball, while .400 is considered exceptional (a mark only a handful of players have ever achieved for a season).
